Earth and water meet harmoniously in Peninsula residence, one of the most impressive villas ever developed by OLIAROS. Inspired by the rich natural surroundings of the site, the building goes back to basics by focusing on local stone and incorporating traditional walls as a way to connect the residence with the land. The design splits the residence in two parts, where the larger western volume contains the main house and a smaller eastern volume contains auxiliary spaces and an outdoor living area. The two parts are connected via a long canal of water—the villa’s swimming pool—that runs continuously from one end of the residence to the other, forming an elemental connection between the two and extending into the landscape as an infinity pool to the west. This symbolic architectural gesture of balance references the linearity of the horizon beyond, and comes to top off a remarkable design that already checks all the boxes when it comes to upscale holiday living in Greece.
Being at the Right Place, All the Time Peninsula’s architectural design comes from Tokyo-based studio Bow Wow, which has collaborated with OLIAROS on several projects on Antiparos. The residence has been thoughtfully laid out to create ample outdoor space with a variety of orientations and degrees of privacy—there are in fact 400 square meters of covered outdoor spaces in Peninsula, which means a large group of guests can relax and socialise comfortably regardless of where the wind is blowing from. The most impressive feature of this residence is of course the stunning views, which are celebrated with a series of covered terraces on the west side, the pool area that is surrounded by wild plants, and a show-stopping rooftop lounge: this round “observatory” can be reached via a flight of steps rising from the central courtyard, and is the perfect spot for a drink with 360-degree views of the hills, distant Cycladic islands and the sunset.
